I have used .243 for wild boar... you should be careful about the excessive posting though.

Also, .22 will work with a well placed shot.

I do that. It's a blast. I'm taking a hot blond with me on my next trip who wants to try it....and she's single .

Irony is it's actually safer with knives than with guns close range, imho. A knife kill with a large blade is the fastest kill I've ever seen on a hog. I've taken them down with 30-06, .44 mags and arrows through the vitals and nothing killed like a bowie through the vitals.
