I have an older blued revolver that has some scratches and dings here and there that are still bright. I'm wondering if I "paint" larger areas with something like Birchwood Casey's Cold Blue, and then wipe it off after the requisite time, if it will have the desired effect of just blueing the areas where the blueing was damaged and basically wipe off the rest of the areas (where the good blueing still is) with no ill effect, OR if it will blotch the whole thing up unpredictably. Anyone tried this before?

cold blue will not effect previosly blued areas... if the scratches are to the metal make sure they are clean IE shiny (steel wool 0000) and then use a degreaser (acetone) the second it evaporates, apply the cold blue... slightly blowing on it, or dabbing it up and down with a Q-tip soaked with the stuff might help.... give me another month or two and my blueing operation will be operational.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully I'll have a little time to try it one evening this week.
