President Joe Biden on Tuesday issued an executive order aimed at repatriating American hostages and other U.S. citizens wrongfully detained abroad.


The action allows federal agencies to impose consequences — such as financial sanctions — on parties involved in hostage-taking or wrongful detentions; authorizes parts of the U.S. government to share relevant information with families regarding the individuals’ status and U.S. efforts to secure their release or return; and taps experts to develop strategies to deter future hostage-taking and wrongful detentions.

So did he just authorize unelected "federal agencies" to set foreign policy rather than Congress??

She is saying they are going to target the buyers. You know so we can create new enemies.

We came close to sanctioning India yesterday over the import of weapons from Russia. The house voted to give them a waiver,so that is likely the origin of why the executive order was issued. If they can not get it done with congress,this administration will use the treasury apparently(and ignore the constitution in the process).

If you take out the EU,Canada,USA,Great Britain,Ukraine,South Korea,and Japan the number of countries sanctioning Russia is zero. Less have sanctions than do by far.

Yeah, but the sanctions are to be used “on parties involved in hostage-taking or wrongful detentions”, and that basketball player does NOT FIT into either of those categories. She broke Russian law by entering the country with illegal drugs and was arrested for it. Just the same as if you go to Colorado on vacation and buy drugs and then fly into the Indianapolis airport. You would be arrested if caught.
