My vote would be the 22-250, the extra oomph is nice out past 200 yards, the additional velocity over the .223 makes crosswinds less of a concern. Also it is nice to have the additional energy on target. Ammo cost between the two for decent hunting ammo is very similar...tho you can of course shoot cheap .223 at the range. I like BVAC's 22-250 ammo, loaded with the Hornady V-Max bullet it is very accurate out of my Savage.

    .222 or .223

Or if you want to be just a little bit different, try 22 Hornet

Hornet or K hornet would work. .222 would probably be my favorite. I've shot tons of whistle pigs with a .22 and .22 WMR as a youth and both will do the job with careful shot placement and appropriate choice of range.

.223 will allow you to stretch the range and smacks a coyote pretty good. Axis is a pretty good deal according to a friend who has one. CDNN has some Ruger 77 models in the catalogue currently right around $500 in .223,.204 ruger, 22-250, 252-06, .243 and some larger rounds.

    remington 700 in .222, imho
I've got a 788 in .222 I love for the little piggies. I'm good with it out to about 250 yds without getting nuts on elevation and that's important on moving targets like coyote or fox. It's also one of the quieter centerfire rounds.
I also have an old rough Browning Micro A bolt in .223 that's deadly in the same range.
Longer shots I go to the .243.
    Everyone has personal preferences.

I went to an auction with the intention of picking up a Savage 340D .222 but the guy decided at the last minute it wasn't going in the auction. I'd read about them being one of the quieter rounds and I wanted it for coyote but had no luck.
