I'm not sure what type of barrel I want for my 300 blk build . I know it'll be 16" , probably 1n7 twist and free float guards but do I want CHF , SS , Melonite ? School me INGO , what are the pros/cons , is there any diffrence at all ?

I think the farthest distance my Blackout will ever be used in a critical defense capacity is about 30 yards, which is the length of my house. "Will it hold rounds on a man-sized target at 30 yards?" was my criteria. Got my barrel on sale from SOTA Arms for right around $100 and have been pleased as punch ever since. What does your performance criteria look like?

Nope no difference at all performance wise. As long as they are all air gauged to .001. And have a perfect muzzle.

Until you handle the stainless steel of a Kreiger barrel. It feels silky unlike any other manufacturers barrel material. Douglas SS shoots just as well for just as long for 1/2 the price. Shilen feels different from both.

I worry about performance out at 600 yards though. You probably aren't.

A SS barrel for field use needs painting. But they all probably do.
