Ok, so I was watching gun videos on you tube and I came across this. At one point in the video he informs that one reason not to carry a backup gun is that it is illegal to do so. He claims to have this on good authority, and that this is the case in 40 states. Is this correct? There are many times that while carrying my primary weapon, I may grab a little .380 for my pocket. Is this illegal? Am I severely uneducated? I have never heard anything like this before.

Some states do restrict your carry to one gun, from my limited review, these states also require that this gun be listed (registered) on the permit. Carrying any other gun in these states is illegal and may get you arrested. Mostly these are the Communist or Socialist states. Indiana is more free, and you can carry any legally possessed gun. I have not seen any restriction on the number in Indiana. If I was going to travel I would certainly review the requirements of the states I was traveling through- just in case.

sig-man, the longer you are in the gun culture the more you will hear "the law says . . ."

The law says no such thing.

People in the gun culture use "the law" as a rationalization of their own laziness or prejudices.

I went into a gun store when I turned 18 to buy an HK93. I was told by the stool blob on duty that the HK93 was "highly illegal" and I could not buy one.

He was a liar, but he was using the "law" as a stalking horse for his own sloth.

"Back up guns are illegal" is simply a justification for not carrying a backup gun.

Thanks for both the replies gentleman. I was fairly certain it was over exaggerated. Feel safe hear in Indiana. My children live with their mother in Ohio. I travel there weekly, and obtained my Utah permit to carry there prior to reciprocity with Indiana. I am familiar with the differences in Ohio. Duty to inform, signs carry weight, etc. Need to look into Ohio's stance on this as well. If anyone knows please chime in.

Illinois does not restrict the number of handguns carried as long as they are concealed. Of course that is no help for Indiana residents. Jim.

As far as I know, Ohio also does not limit to 1 handgun carried at a time.

I'm in Ohio far more often than I'd like for family functions...

I agree with 'old dog'. "the law says..." different things in different places and in some of them, they have gun laws appropriate for socialist states. If you have to travel, check the local laws

I was talking with two young men from a small town that were eager to get their LTC. Wanting to be educated, they had a long talk with a friend who was a policeman in the town. He filled them with so much garbage that it took me a couple of hours to re-educate them. One of the issues was on backup guns. He told them that it was illegal to carry more than two guns on you at any one time.

The only state that I know of that does limit carry to one handgun is NM. You can only carry ONE CONCEALED handgun. My understanding is that you would be able to OPEN carry as many as you like, but only one could be concealed.

I don't believe in carrying backup guns.

Of course, I do believe in carrying second, third, fourth, etc. guns. Or even secondary guns and tertiary guns, but not "backup" guns. Too wimpy.

Not just "illegal", it's "highly illegal". That makes a big difference I hear.
