Well I just got back from MEPS to take the ASVAB and I got on the AFQT percentile score: 89 and GT: 125

You might want to consider 18x if they have any slots. You'll go through 11B basic, Airborne School, then on to Special Forces Selection, if you don't make it, you'll probably go to the 82nd. Really you have nothing to lose if you want to be 11B and may want Airborne.

btw what do all these scores mean? GT, CL, CO, EL, FA, GM, MM, OF, SC, ST

I'm trying to get Cryptologic Linguist and Germany right now. I'll probably settle for just the MOS though. It's a good way into the SF community, take out Ranger School while I'm there, then i've already got a tab and language out of the way. That means i would only have a year in the Q course. Who knows if I'll go through with any or all of it right now though.

Cryptologic Linguist is what I did in the AF (they called it "Voice Processing Specialist" when I enlisted and changed to "Cryptologic Linguist" during my hitch). In retrospect it was a bad choice for me. Really, really bad--as in driven to near-suicidal depression bad.

The "killer" for me was that the assignments I had involved a lot of sit and wait. No reading. No working crossword puzzles. No chatting with the others with me. Sit and wait and pay very close attention to, well, nothing waiting for it to be something.

I was not mentally and emotionally cut out for that and since the washout rate in training was about three times the allowance for washouts. This meant that the field was chronically short-staffed and as a result I could not transfer out and retrain in something else. Had I not had the self confidence issues I had coming out of high school I would have stuck with my original plan--electronics specializing in whatever had the longest technical school.

Everything these guys say^^^^ I was told by the recruiter they would ask where I wanted to be stationed before you graduate basic...Not true. I signed 4yrs uncommited and never got a choice (I didn't really care) and wound up at wonderful Ft. Lewis in Washington state. Awesome place, but if it ain't rainin'...you ain't trainin'. That was kind of the motto around there. Seattle is only 40 minutes away and is pretty cool place (tons of liberals though). I joined without any Airborne or Air Assault in contract and I 4187'ed until my CO and 1SG was sick of me asking, but first made me attend pre-ranger and other "classes" first. If you want the stuff it's there for the taking just get it in your contract. If you need any help you can email me and I can answer a lot for you. Also know a few people who know a few people so that can help. Send me a PM if you have any ?'s. Dustin
