Im pretty sure thats an obvious typo... otherwise how on earth could you choose to be female or disabled?

No typo. Get a sex change. Cut your leg off.

The rest is just arguing pointless details.

I'm not trying to exclude anyone from my business but it is wrong to deprive anyone of their freedom to freely associate.

I get what you are saying, and as I said in my post, I prefer to give my money to businesses that believe in equality for all. I would choose the butcher, the baker, and candlestick maker that welcomes my business. But, hypothetically, say we are visiting Arizona and stop in the local mom n pop store to get some snacks. First, because we don't always leave the house with our "I'm with my lesbian lover---->" shirts on, how would they even know to not sell to us? Are business going to be allowed to put up signs stating "Straight Only?" What if we're in the middle of BFE and need to use the restroom..."I'm sorry, but my religious beliefs prevent you from using the loo." Silly examples, perhaps, but not that far of a stretch. What happened to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? I guess it only suits some when they feel like it.

None of us have a "right" to anything that involves someone else's private property. Buying snacks, using their bathroom, whatever.

The owner pays the bills and makes the rules. This is what it means to own something. Nobody else can charge in and start making demands.

It may be inconvenient to get turned away, but it is not a loss of liberty. The person is free to do business elsewhere.

Private discrimination is a right. Government discrimination is another matter.

A private property that offers goods and services. I'm not talking about walking up to Granny Smith's front porch and demanding some sweet tea. I'm talking about going into a business.

I actually agreed with another poster who said that if a business wants to discriminate they need to post it for all to see, on their walls and their website.

The store that offers goods and services is privately owned. Just like Granny's house. Maybe Granny Smith owns the store. She still makes the rules, not the guests who wander in.

Well I guess now the baker has to make the cake, but how long until someone gets sued for discrimination because the cake "didn't taste right"

So what if the couple wants a cake shaped a phallus? Or one of those cakes made from picture where the picture is of the couple having sex?

Does a gay couple have the right to force a Christian photographer to film a porno session?

Believe it or not, I truly get what you are saying. If I owned a business, I would want the right to refuse service to someone, not because they are straight, gay, black, white, etc, but mainly due to the fact they are a douchebag. Ayway, I just think that if they want to pass a law to support that, why not just pass a bill that allows people to reserve the right to refuse service, without specifically singling out anyone? I think it would have more merit. Just my :twocents:.

I believe that the courts would adopt a reasonable standard. If a bakery makes sexually explicit cakes for straight couples then they would have to make them for the gay couple as well. If they never make sexually explicit cakes then they wouldn't. Again, religion should have nothing to do with this. It's a really bad idea to go around making laws that say Christians can discriminate against gays but Atheists can't. It makes no sense to say that religious beliefs count for more than other beliefs. For example, lets say I'm an Atheist store owner who believes that being gay is unnatural and that it undermines our society. Why should I have to provide service while a Christian store owner doesn't? His beliefs are no more valid than mine.

What about the link to the article where a lesbian is suing a Muslim barber for not cutting her hair? Does she have the right to force him?

I don't think they should be treated any differently. I also think people should be able to discriminate however they choose, word of mouth alone would shut most of them down unless enough people that felt the same way went there.
