I have some 30 round mags that I want to keep loaded. How many rounds should I keep in them and what maintenance should I do to keep them reliable?

if you use that little "search" bar that is up near the right corner of your INGO page you will see 50 thousand different threads about mags, storing mags, cleaning mags, unloading and loading mags, dirty, smelly ugly mags.

If you're just storing them loaded then toss in 28 rounds and put them somewhere you won't forget.

Download USGI 30 rounders to 28 for ease of insertion on a closed bolt
Leave them loaded, the springs will not take a "set" or "wear out" from being left loaded.

PMags...load them to 30, they were designed to have enough room for the spring to compress when loading them on a closed bolt. For long term storage keep the snap on covers on them.

Gee that took the same effort to post as the reply that didn't help anything. :twocents:

OK guys thanks for your replies. I am new to computers so don't always find my way around these sites very well. I am also new to AR-15s and Glocks so I need a lot of expert advice on maintenance ect.

    Oh crap.

Because of this thread, I need to download all of my GI mags to 28 rounds after they have been sitting around loaded for the last 25 years or so.

Where were all the experts to guide me before I got this computer?

    I appreciate the info.

I think you're misunderstanding the advice offered. No one is suggesting you take rounds out of any mags you have been storing.

He's just saying that if you're going to be storing some mags (like the OP is) that only loading 28 rounds will helps them seat on a closed bolt and that you can leave them loaded indefinitely.
