I was in Bradis on Friday, seen Bob while he's in town too. Anyhow, they were telling me that ammo will increase again in June!!! Funny thing about the "war" excuse is, every shop I have been in has had surplus and its about $.44 per round on 5.56mm, seems plentiful for now to still be high. Its like fuel prices.... it will never be low again!!!
But I do know from work that even cold roll steel to forgings we are paying about 50%- 70% more than a year ago. So its the weak dollar and metals prices driving the increases IMHO.
I have seen this last week:
Surplus 5.56mm:
Port $44 per 100
Ingman $85 per 200
Wolf $179.95 per 500
New manufactured:
PMC $440 per 1K
Win $450 per 1K
And cases not just a few packs or boxes here & there.....
Your post was dead on. A weak dollar, strong international demand for oil / commodities and laws prohibiting importation of ammo from China have all contributed to the rise in ammo. It looks like inflation will continue to rise, along with ammo prices and that doesn't even count the effect of the laws that will be passed once the Dems take over the Congress and the White House come Jan 2009. (Hold your nose, vote McCain!)
