My sister-in-law had either a very mild form of this or a precursor to it. The hand would not move on its own, but she would often be struck with the notion that the entire arm did not actually belong to her -- that it was someone else's arm attached to her body.

She was about 8 months pregnant with her first child when she started having seizures, which led to the discovery of a benign, extremely slow growing brain tumor that doctors said she'd probably had all of her life (she was around 35 at the time). The tumor was removed, and apparently it's relieved the "alien" symptoms. So now it's just a cool story.

So is that considered a permanent "stranger"? I work in a hospital and I was an EMT long before that and I have neither heard of or witnessed any alien hand..... Whats with the rash of created diseases anyway? RLS, Alien hand to name a few.....

RLS and AHS have been studied and diagnosed by doctors for a hundred years, they aren't really new conditions.

+1 on the stranger joke. :D
