The other day I had way too much time on my hands and was comparing loads between the 500 and 460. The 460 is always heralded as "flat shooting." But, when I plugged in some numbers for the 500 with a 300gr Hornady polymer-tip and compared it to the 460's 200gr Hornady polymer tip, the 500 had less drop. For example, at 260 yards (with a 200 yard zero), the 500 load dropped 11.8" and the 460 dropped 13.46". This continued all the way out.

Am I looking at this wrong? I know the 300gr is lighter then most guys load for in the 500, but it seems it has it on the 460 at that weight in every way besides velocity.

No, you're not looking at it wrong. Even within the same caliber, the 240gr and 300gr XTP beat the 200gr FTX due to better ballistic coefficients even without the pointy tips.

In the 50 cal, get this, the 300gr XTP for the 50AE has a better BC than the 300gr FTX.

The only way a .460 with a 200gr bullet beats a .454 with a 300gr bullet is with a Barnes all copper bullet.

Thanks kludge- I had never really looked at the bc of various bullets for these calibers. It really sheds a whole new light on looking at these mammoths and their ballistics.
