I've been shooting about every weekend this year and the cost of plated 45acp bullets for my Glock is killing me.

I'm thinking of switching guns to an M&P .40, but I'd like to keep my major power factor for USPSA.

Do any of you guys shoot .40, major power factor, with LEAD bullets? If so, care to share your load recipes?

Yes, I have plenty of reloading manuals... just looking for some personal experience from fellow INGO'ers.

My lead load makes major in a Para 16-40 LTD.

    180g lead
6.0 Power Pistol (As low as 5.5g has made 168PF)
    1.130 +- .005 OAL
    172+ PF
Snappy. Smokey too depending on the bullet lube.

I've thought about moly bullets as they are not much more than lead and should be a little cleaner.

I've tried W231 with Jacketed bullets. Not much luck on PF however I've not tried it with lead. If I remember correctly Winchester 231 max load for 40SW is 5g. Probably drop by 10 - 15% and it will be a good starting point if you want to try 231. If I switch back to lead I'll be looking at using 231.

Cat's link is a great resource.
