    I. Want. A. Glock.

My first gun was a Glock 22. Since then I've had a a schlew of different guns and my top two contenders have been Sig's and HK's. I was curious though about a particular Glock. Glock 19's are a dime a dozen and pretty easy to come by, however I have been eyeballing a Gen 2 Glock 19. From what I can tell, this seems to be the pinnacle of Glock's line. Many Glock aficionados seem to covet this gun for being the best designed Glock. With that said, there's a couple things I would like you all to weigh in on.

1.) Scarcity? Seems like there arent too many out there? Is this just because theyre older, or because no one wants to give them up?

2.) Is a 19 a 19? I'm assuming they are essentially the same (gen 2 = gen 4) other than cosmetics and some internal parts. Anyone have experience with both and care to share performance?

3.) Price. Take away the gun hype lately....what is a REALISTIC price that would be paid for one of these? Personally I think $500 for a used Gen 2 is a little steep considering for that much a a bit more you can get a Gen 4 brand new.

Keep in mind this would be a "just because" kind of gun. I already have a dedicated EDC and HD gun...though more than likely I would carry it sometimes just because.

19 is easily the most popular Glock. It's not an accident that this is the case.

The Gen 2s are especially desirable for those whose hands don't fit the finger grooves that were added for the Gen 3s and later.

What the "best" generation of Glocks is depends on whom you ask. For me, the Gen 4s are the best ever, but some prefer the Gen 3s and others the Gen 2s.

    1) Scarcity for G19s should never be an issue, but Gen2s are much rarer than Gen 3s, it seems. I think it's because people keep them, but that's just conjecture on my part.
    2) I can't tell you how a Gen 4 might compare to a Gen2, but I can say that the Gen 4s I have shot have been superb.
    3) I can't see paying more than $500 for a used Gen2, since NEW Gen 4s can be had for $550 or less. But if you HAVE to have a Gen 2, you have to pay the going rate.

I've had Gen 2/3/4 G19's and I'd say the Gen 4 was the best shooter....not much difference though. A fair/good condition Gen2 G19 w/ two mags & standard sights should be around $400. I'd say the Gen2 was may favorite to carry, due to the smooth grip against bare skin. A Gen2 with Austrian proof marks will bring more $, unless the seller doesn't know what they have. I tried the G23 and haven't turned back to the G19 yet.

Good luck finding a decent Gen 2 19 for $400:rolleyes:. Gen 2s are sought after just because of the lack of finger groves and because they are old by comparison.
Gen 3 will do the same thing with less issues (again because of age) IMHO. Last few that sold on GB went in the $450 to $500 area.

I'm a big fan of the gen3 g19. Its my edc and I believe it to be the best designed handgun on the planet. I like the finger groove compared to the gen 2. I have no opinion on the gen 4s as I have zero personal experience with them.

I had a late model Gen 3 and a Gen 4, 19. I had issues with both guns, it may be a long time until I buy a 19 again. However I do own 2 Glocks, both Gen 3, and both chambered in .357sig.
    Both have been flawless.

As said the Gen 2 is sought after due to no finger grooves. My sausage fingers didn't like the Gen 3 so I have a 2 instead. Acuuracy? No difference to me. Field strip is near identical 2 pin vs. 3 pin on the 3 and 4s. If the finger grooves on the gen 3 fit you then I'd go that way and not pay the gen 2 premium. Texture is different as well, gen 3s offered RTF on later models and it has a sandpaper feel so watch for that. It's most uncomfortable against bare skin (my 17 RTF2 will remove skin after being carried all day concealed)

With that said, I still want a gen 2 17 to compliment my 19.

There were issues for a time with the late Gen 3s and 4s. I have 3 Gen 4s at this point and they are all have ran flawlessly. I resisted the 4s for a while but I've decided that, at least for me, the Gen 4 is the way to go.. Wish I could have looked over your "problems" to see what was going on.

I've bought a Gen 2 G19 and G23 in the last six months, and both were under $400 :dunno:. I agree they are sought after, but there are so many you don't have to overpay for a 15-20 yr old gun. Gunbroker is overpriced more times than not...check out one of the smaller sites like Gunauction.com.

I've had Glocks for over 20 years. Started with a 21, added a 30, then a 27 (Gen 3), then a 23 (Gen 3), then a second 23 (Gen 3). Ended up winning a Gift Cert a while back and decided to try out a 19 (Gen 3)... and I now love that gun :rockwoot:. Having come from the 45 ACP, I just had some aversion to 9mm and thought the 40 was the answer. Then soon after had a chance to pick up a used 26 from a relative. Wishing I had started and stayed with 19's all those years ago now.

You won't regret getting a 19. Try out a Gen 3 and a Gen 4. If the finger grooves are not your thing, then go hunting for a Gen 2.

I love my Gen3 19. It's been flawless as all of the Glocks I've owned for the past 20 years have been... all flawless.
I'd love to find a Gen2 19 with Austrian proof marks.

To the OP, just found this. HK Specialist - Product Display
I have ordered from them in the past, they are very reputable.

I don't think he will find a better deal than that.
