I know a guy who has built a couple hundred Rem 700's in 358 WSM-IN which is the 358 1.8" winchester short mag. The round should work in your savage. It seems to be a great round for indiana and I've seen some pics of other successful hunts elsewhere. A Grizzly Bear in Montana, elk in colorado and wyoming, antelope in wyoming (bit big for the game I think) and mule deer out west. The round is basically one of the win short mag cases necked up to .358 after being shortened so that it will end up at an overall case length of 1.8" or less. They mostly seem to use 325WSM or 300WSM cases to start with.
