Is minimum wage equivalent to $2,800 a month?

$2800 a month at 160 hours a month (which is a little high) comes out to $17.5/hr.

Not bad. I'll take it, where do I sign up? I tried going to the website but they just tried to sell me NFL jerseys and cologne...

$2800 is ~$16/hour for a 40 hour week. I guess it's not surprising for Switzerland. My guess is that they'll be a whole lot less productive.

Some democrats in the US were talking about a $15/hour minimum wage. I think the world has gone bat-poop crazy.

No... It's less than 1/2, witch IMHO it should be... Go get a education, start at a job you enjoy, and work your way to the top... No one should expect to start at top pay unless you are doing top pay work.

With a minimum wage that high, wouldn't the price of products eventually rise to make that $2800 a month nearly equal to $0? Suppose it makes the people happy for a few years at least.

These soft communist ideas are boggling to my mind, I can't understand how it could function in the long term. Seems like it'd make more sense to just subsidize peoples' utilities and housing, as it wouldn't throw the economy for as much of a loop in the long term.

For a few months at the most unless the government also fixes prices and forces companies to sell stuff at a loss then maybe they gain an extra month or so.

Problem is with many of those country's across the pond is that they pay somewhere around 50% in taxes and other related things. I did some work for a Belgian company in the 1990's. I asked the supervisor why we were TIG welding SS units in Indiana for a Belgian Country when the completed units were destined for France. He told me that people in his country could stay at home and make basically the same amount of money by not working. End result there is no one there that wants to work. So they had their units made at the company I worked for and shipped to France.

I'm sick of everybody wanting a hand out. I work really hard for what I earn. I sacrifice so much time away from home and family. I make what I make because I am good at what I do. For 2 years in a row, I've retired my sales number by Oct 1st in a business sector that is completely under attack by the EPA and .gov.

So far this year, I've paid over $14k in federal taxes alone claiming 4 dependents. Not including state and local and social security. If something like this reaches across the pond, I'm gonna be paying even more. At some point, people like me will just say forget it, it's not worth it.

One of my many reasons for Opposing the minimum wage is that if the government can set a Minimum wage...what is to stop them from setting a Maximum wage? I get laughed at every time I say that. Now I feel some what vindicated!

With all the complaining they do about the "1%" I'm very surprised this hasn't been talked about more. In fact, I don't think I've seen it mentioned once among the socialists up on the hill.

Well, they'd have to exempt themselves, which would look a bit more awkward than, say, exempting their staffers from Obamacare.

As Dr. Watson would say, "No sh*t, Sherlock, what was your first clue?"

More people are "shrugging" every day.

I retired the first day I was able to do so just to get out of this "work for everyone else's benefit" system.

Don't misunderstand, I care about my fellow man and give generously to charities. The charities I support encourage self sufficiency rather than dependance.
The current administration encourages dependance to buy votes.

The article also says that Switzerland will vote on October 24th to limit the pay of company owners to that of the lowest paid associate.

If passed, I give them a decade before they collapse.
