I'm not talking about a 22mag but I'm just curios what groups you are seeing at 100yds with your .22s and what set up you are using. I love my 17hmr but if I could get even close groups out of a .22 I would try it.

So you're talking about .22 long rifle then?

I went the other way. I thought I could do better with 17hmr and switch from .22lr. As of right now I'm still better with .22lr, but it's a proven set up with thousands of rounds put thought it by me and the .17 is still a very new setup for me. IMO the .17 will our perform the .22 pass 75 yards once I get more trigger time behind it.

My .22 is a Ruger 10/22 with bull barrel, trigger job, free float stock 12x32x50 Tasco scope. The .17 is a stock Savage 93R17 TR with a 16x40x50 Tasco scope.

With my .17 HMR Savage I can put five rounds inside a bottle cap at 100 yds.& with my best .22lr I can do the same thing at 50 yds.;)
That is a big difference, but I can't shoot squirrels any closer than 10 yds with the .17 HMR cause they explode so when I'm hunting squirrels I take both guns.:dunno:

I grew up hunting prairie dogs out west with .22s. A few years ago I took my .17 HMR Winchester 94 on a trip. And wow... no kidding that they explode. Very effective round. :yesway:
