Recently got into handguns, I have a 9mm but am looking for a .22 to shoot target and probably competitions eventually with. Was wondering what a good starter would be. Have been looking in the classifieds for something but am just to slow. Any advice is appreciated

    What kind of competitions (bullseye,action,silhouette?).

Browning and Ruger make nice target models for the $.
If wanting to bump it up then maybe an old High standard or Smith 41.
The Marvel conversion for 1911 is supposed to be well made.

I love my Browning Buckmark! Great shooter as is. I did a little work to bring the trigger travel to about 1/2 and lightened to about 2-1/2lbs. Mine came with front and rear fiber optic adjustable sights. Recently I added a cheap holograph sight that seems to aim itself! Check one out before you buy.

Another one to consider would be the S&W 22A. It's about in line with the Neos price-wise. You really can't go wrong with any of the guns mentioned.

I tried almost every semi auto 22 target pistol and settled on a Marvel Longslide conversion on a 1911 frame. It has proved sooo good , I purchased a second one.
Going first class is it's own reward.

I would go with either a Ruger bull barrel target model or a Smith 22A target model! I have both and they have been solid performers! If I had to choose though, I would go with the Ruger. Has anyone ever heard of a MK I, MK II, or MK III ever wearing out?Cause I hav'nt! :)

I have two RUGER MARK II both have BULL barrel. One has the 5.5 inch bull barrel & the other has the 6 7/8 inch bull barrel, these guns are very accurate

The Ruger is hard to beat for the money and there are plenty of upgrades available. It would be the only one in its price range I would consider.

If you want to shoot competition, the best option is one of ruger models.

If you want something fun to shoot, that you can practice basic handgun fundamentals and it will handle like a 9/40/45 (it will be lighter/smaller/no kick, etc)... I would vote for the gsg/sig 1911. Stock they are pretty solid. Companies sell upgrades for them and they become GREAT shooters. So much fun to shoot, more accurate than your normal shooter.

If you want to go down that route, contact ZRTS(sponsor here on the forums). He built mine and I couldn't be happier. He did everything from selling me the .22, upgrading everything, gun koating it and making the water moccasin grips.

I love my Smith 41 and would highly recommend one. I think the Beretta NEOS feels great in the hand, but I also haven't had a chance to shoot one yet either.

The Neos is perfect for someone with small to medium sized hands. I always felt like the grip was too small for me.

It shot flawlessly and it was easy to clean. Both of which are not true for my URX above...
