So here's the deal. I am needing a host for my new suppressor :rockwoot:. The problem is that I need a 9mm host and only have 45 handguns right now. I have been told that my fullsize 45 could be converted to 9mm with a barrel/bushing and magazine change:dunno:. I have seen some conflicting information on the internet on this topic and wondered if anyone had any experience with it. If I can do this, it solves a lot of problems in an easy package. I want to stay with the 1911 platform and considered just buying a gun in 9mm and getting a threaded barrel, but cost adds up pretty quick. If anyone has any experience on this or can point me in the right direction that would be great.

I am thinking it would take a bunch of money to modify a 45 to a 9MM. You are better off just buying a 9MM pistol and a threaded barrel. Glocks are resonable and a threaded barrel will run $100~$150.

in order to convert a 45 to 9mm you would have to replace the slide barrel and magazines. The base of a 9 is to small to work in the 45 slide. FYI 9mm 1911's can be finicky. I think another platform would be best to suppress. :twocents:

The ejector would need to be changed along with the slide ,bbl.,bbl.bushing and mags. so the conversion would not be something you could switch back and forth

As the others said, to convert a .45ACP 1911 to 9mm, you'd need to change the slide because the breechface of the .45 is too big, the barrel, extractor, and the ejector. Then getting it to work will be a chore.

If you have your heart set on a 9mm 1911 though, look at Springfields offerings! Very nice.
