I was at a gun shop in Seymour and there was a sticky note on the cash register that read "WARNING: do not use 17 HMR in semi automatic rifles." Does anyone know why this might be?
Last summer Remington recalled all their 17hmr ammo and the model 597 semi-auto rifle that fires that cartrige. There was a problem with the rifle being able to handle the pressure on the magnum with the blow back action
Remington is not taking as much of a bath as they should. If you send your 597 HMR back they will give you a coupon, worth about 50% of the original price, which can only be used to buy another Remington. It's the poor guy with a $400-$500 597 that is taking the bath. If their product is defective, they should be giving a full cash refund!
BTW, my 10/22 magnum converted to HMR runs like a top.
If I am not mistaken, the "10/17" were aftermarket. Regardless, if a few "squeaked out" they would be very rare and not likely enough out there to warrant an all I've seen is semi-autos. Again, no flame intended because I am curious and would like a good semi-auto .17HMR.
