We own a 50's vintage built house, with full basement, with a 10X8X8 tornado shelter built off of one basement wall. The room is totally block/concrete encased, with a 3' concrete ceiling that is actually the floor of my front porch.
My thoughts are to seal/insulate/moisture barrier the walls...
Okay, I am going to be finishing my basement, and building my man cave. Part of this project will be my gun room.
I want a secure room, and will be putting in a steel door, with steel frame, and a quality deadbolt. three sides of the room will be against the concrete walls, so I'm not worried...
I just got all my stuff moved into the man cave. Now I just need to get shelves to put it all on. I had to carry this downstairs at the old house and down to the basement at the new house. The majority of that pile is either ammo, ammo components or reloading equipment.
A word of advice...
I am interested in building a shooting range in my basement. My question is about the law that makes it unlawful to discharge a firearm within city limits. Would that also be the case in a in-home firing range? Anyone have any insight?
Thanks,
INGunGuy
I got my vault door primed and the plunger holes covered with pipe nipples that I welded on. My builder is going to put the door in before he pours the concrete so it will take an Abrams to pull it out. The pipe nipples will give it a little strength as well. :D
A post about gun vaults got me thinking (sometimes a dangerous thing!). Has anyone here ever considered a false wall to conceal guns & valuables? I've kicked the idea around since a burglary a few years back, but haven't gotten serious about it yet.
Opinions?
As I was sitting here thinking about what amenities would be nice to have in a full-size workshop....
I'm like- bathroom, bar, fridge, gun safe/gun room....range!
Oh snap, what a killer idea, build a range in the basement of the work shop. You could design a gun room/safe area in there also...
The time has come for me to get a shotgun but the thing is want to stash it somewhere in my room loaded. What techniques do some of you guys use to stash long guns? I don't have any kids in the house.
Well I'm considering building a shooting shack. Where I will be building my house, I should be able to get up to a 400 yard shot pretty easily. I'm thinking of building a 6 foot wide by 8 foot deep by 6 foot tall. Basically just a light weight storage shed and insulate it very well to cut...
Saw these guys at the 1500. Fast Access Systems Technolgies . My father bought one and we were talking about it on the way home. Has anyone else used one of these? I was wondering about residual magnatism in the gun, and if it would harm performance/reliability?

I just LOVE some of my customers!
I took one of my better customers (my treat) to the Friends of the NRA banquet last year in West Lafayette. He bought a raffle ticket at the dinner for $20, and ended up winning a really nice camo'd Savage .22-250!:rockwoot:
That MAY have been "the straw that...
We have been discussing ideas for a new house we are going to build in a few years. I thought it would be nice to have an indoor range in the basement, along with a safe/vault, etc. I know I may be dreaming, but are there any laws against a private citizen having an indoor range at their home...
I"m in the process of rebuilding our den into my gun room. it will end up being about 12x12' square. I'm going to make a scale floorplan of it tonight and try some various layouts of reloading benches, shelves, safes, etc. It will be a room set up for reloading and gun storage as well as some...
