I'm heading up to Anchorage soon with the family. My third trip that way, first trip for my wife and kids. Even with a wild fire, Alaska is a beautiful place and a gift to visit. I'm jealous of your roadtrip and I look forward to hearing more about it.
I have a couple of thoughts on this:
1.) How much can you carry as fast as you can run for your life knowing you'd drop anything you're carrying just to make you that much faster so you could escape some thing horrible? Maybe someone out there is Rambo, but for me that's very little.
2.) If...
I bought a Ruger PC 9mm backpacker and I like it. I thought all 9mm rifles were just a dumb idea until I had to start routinely dispatching varmints in the last year or two and the 9mm does a better job than a 22lr. I was honestly shocked and taken back when I shot mine for the first time...
I'd consider one of these. How do they compare to the competition though? Back in the day a Dan Wesson Specialist would have had many of these same features.
Tikka CTR 308 in a Grayboe stock, PST Gen1 6-24 FFP, Magpul bipod, Short Action Precision 2 round holder, EC Tuner Brake. I did a rattle can job on the gun because that's what I prefer. Using factory Fed GMM 175gr, Winchester/Lake City M118 175gr and my 175gr handloads this rifle shoots very...
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I'm looking at this from another perspective too. At what point do you have enough rounds through the gun that it's on you to buy the new part? I get it, we have all probably bought a used gun or two on this forum and I know I sure have. The P365 I have on me...
As far as the old H&R single shots go I had one of their buffalo classics in 45-70 but ultimately had to sell it. I regret that, but onto better things I suppose.
Every so often I get looking at old style single shot rifles like the 1885, sharps, falling blocks, and whatever else falls into that category. Usually this happens after I've watched Quigley Down Under, even though I know he didn't use a 45-70. For plinking uses I think it'd be fun to get out...
I recently picked up .410 shells from Cabelas because it's the first time I'd seen them in stock in quantity in years. My .410 is a TPS M6 Scout single shot that much .410 ammo will likely last me the rest of my life.
100% AGREE! Gold/Silver/USD/Chicken Eggs or whatever you're trying to barter is all about the purchasing power it holds. Nothing is ever worth more than what another person is willing to spend.
What's corrupt about Fort Wayne's mayor? Henry did a lot of good for the town and even when he drove drunk he still got a DUI. That's about the only blemish on his legacy that I'm aware of and I've lived here my whole life. I was sad to hear he had passed away.
Great deal. I went to checkout with 3 of those cases and the shipping was $172. Maybe someone else will get better shipping, but for me I'll probably just buy more from AIM Surplus because they'll have it at my door in a day or two for much less $$$.
I'm looking at these meals as a way to add variety and supplement the stash with something that tastes different. Way back in the day I used to buy MRE entree's only back when that was a thing, now those are all expired or old enough that it's not much life insurance for the next 10 years.
Trust me, I get it. My first girlfriends dad was a high school principle. Before I showed up to take her out to dinner and a movie I was told he'd already called my school and got a background on what kind of kid I was. He didn't have any guns or weapons laying around, just a stone cold...
Not that I didn't enjoy reading the first few pages of this dumpster fire, but I've got a few thoughts on the topic and questions for the older (more experienced) dads than me because my oldest is just getting to this age and I'm just getting started on this.
So, some facts of life I've had...
I bought some of these to try out and store: https://aimsurplus.com/products/humanitarian-daily-ration-two-entrees
When these show up I'm going to go through and rotate out some old stored foods. The chickens out back will help clean out the old stuff.
This deal cost me some money. I've never had a humanitarian daily ration, but I've had plenty of MRE's in the past. For $5 each it's a no brainer even if you don't like them at all. I bought a couple to try and more to store away.
