My daughter is left eye dominant, but shoots right handed ( quite well with a handgun) . I want to set up my Marlin Camp Carbine so she can use a scope with her left eye, but on the right shoulder.. any suggestions? Previous experience?

My wife was shooting horrible with her right hand - then we realized she was right eye dominate - so she switched to her left and and did much better.

    YMMV

Two of my daughters are right handed but left eye dominant; they both shoot long guns left handed. Having said that, there was a girl at 4H shooting sports who was able to crane her neck over enough to align the scope with her left eye. It was only a .22 lr, so recoil (and the potential scope-eyebrow collision) was not an issue.

I'm right eye dominant but shoot rifles left-handed.

My advice is to pick a side. Either train her to shoot lefty or train her right eye to work as well as her dominate.

Shooting left handed has its issues, but shooting "cross eyed" is far worse.

Set the rifle up with a scope, for her to shoot as if she were right-handed and right eye dominant.

If she shoots with both eyes open and has any trouble with the left eye trying to take over, you can apply some scotch tape to the left lens of her shooting glasses to eliminate this problem. This is a very common solution with shotgun shooters.

If this is to be a hunting rifle and she needs both eyes clear to walk about, you can add a screen to the left side of the scope to block her left eye.

However, if you must set the rifle up with the scope offset for her left eye, here's one way to do that ... https://levergunscommunity.org/viewtopic.php?t=65487

    How old is the girl?

I had this when my son was 5-6. I suppose every person will be different, but he shoots long guns, & bows lefty, and the officials at combat pistol shoots can't tell which is his " off " hand, as he shoots both just as well.( he is now 43)

I wouldn't force her, give her gentle guidance

Best thing she can do is train with both eyes open. Best thing you can do is buy her an optic designed for sighting with both eyes.

Trijicon ACOG's were designed for this. There are others.

There are more in-depth articles / discussions on this.

I'm left eye dominant / right-handed. I wish I had done this when I was younger. I can shoot shotguns and most rifles left or right which has advantages at times. AR's I just stick to right-handed rather than purchasing a lefty version. Pistols are right-handed and both eyes open.

She's 45 , it's no longer just a training issue. She's been using her left eye to sight from the right shoulder for years. If you can't keep your head level, you can't balance standing up.

I just automatically shot long guns left handed. Note sure why. Hand guns I shoot right.

my grandson #2 is also cross eyed dominant. His dad started him out shooting right handed. I put him on a left handed bolt and had him try left handed. He wanted to go back to shooting right handed. It looked like he was closing an eye either way.

Is there any good reason she can't just close her left eye while shooting? Yes, she gives up some peripheral vision doing that but for many situations it's really not an issue.
I mostly come from shotgun sports and this is a common fix for being cross eye dominant (by some of the best).

I have struggled with this for 50+ years. I squint my left eye. Closing the eye will cause the right eye to dilate.

The whole idea is occlude the dominant eye so that the non dominant eye has to take over.

In the shotgun sports, one person comes to mind who has a ton of experience helping shooters with eye dominance issues. You might try reaching out to Phil Kiner.
Warning- he may keep you on the phone for a bit because he will talk to you like he has known you for years

I've shot long guns lefty for years, but I'm right handed/left eye dominate. I have a lefty Bolt gun, but any other long guns are shot left handed, and I just use my left eye to shoot pistols. I think every one is over thinking it, If you're shooting fine left, do so. I found out early that I prefer my left eye, due to getting into photography....every camera is set up for right eye...Improvise, adapt, overcome. Also my Dad got us into black powder guns pretty early, and very few lefty options were out there, so I shot right handed BP guns. I learned that the flintlock going off in your face was a good way to start shooting it right handed. I've passed on my weirdness to my son, but he's gone a step farther, he's right handed/left eye, but carries his pistol left side....I've said on here before, I throw right handed, kick left footed, shoot pool and long guns lefty....Good luck to her, she'll figure it out

I am in the same boat. Left eye dominant, right handed. I position my scope cap so that when its flipped open, it blocks my left eye.
Same here on left eye dominant, right handed. Handguns just pull a little off center or go Weaver stance.
Long guns are a trip! I started shooting at 10 yrs old, and shoot left handed to match left sight eye dominant. Has worked for me forever.

.It does allow a lower rifle push away, handgun up and running no problem. I prefer a single loop sling on long guns for easier push away under pressure.

With a bolt gun, right hand works the bolt/reload chamber round, while left arm stays on target. It is fast with 22lr plinking guns too.

Had an NRA Instructor shaking his head when at the range. He even tried an eye patch deal, but need both eyes open to get that alignment down range.
Try a few different methods though. You may slide in to a perfect result.
    Good luck.

I've been right handed and left eye dominant my entire life. I can't say as it has ever affected my shooting. I don't get the hoopla about how bad it is. I hit what I'm shooting at. The cross dominant thing makes me sight a rifle different than most folks. It affects handgun shooting not one iota. IIRC, 'legally blind' means vision cannot be corrected to better than 20/200 with any corrective lenses. My right eye is 20/400 with total loss of central vision due to macular degeneration. Left eye still holding at 20/20. I have absolutely no depth perception out past 3-4 feet, but I have no problems putting rounds on targets.
