Great video, is the locomotive's range limited by the logistics involved in keeping it running.? I see lots of people involved who would have been where ever trains went in the past but is probably a very specialized skill set today.

    Thank you, my friend.

Yes, it is limited. Each stop is planned ahead and based on miles travelled. As you've noted, there are many service points that need attention but not every one at each stop. Grease for the running gear, oil for the pistons, water, fuel. From Rochelle to Watseka Illinois is roughly 100 miles by rail. They greased and oiled in Wateska but did not add water or fuel (4014 was built to burn coal but converted to No. 5 oil when it was restored to running condition in 2017. It consumes about 22 gal. of oil PER MILE. Can you imagine how much coal it ate? I think they developed an auger system that fed coal from the tender to the firebox by the mid 1940's). So, yes, each stop back in the day had their team of servicemen but today they assemble trained teams at designated stops to perform scheduled maintenance. At overnight stops, they go over the entire engine. Security is provided by local UP Police.

It was way bigger of an event than I anticipated. We had a ball.
