Despite not needing one, I find myself looking at adding a PDP or Echelon as my primary self defense weapon. Both are outstanding firearms. Trying to decide between them is very difficult because they are both so good. I was wondering what the board thinks as to the pros and cons of both pistols.

I would choose the Echelon, the PDP is a great handgun but the Echelon shoots flater and softer. PDP's trigger is outstanding but Echelon is becoming very popular and there is a ton of aftermarket support.

    This might help...

My best 10-yard group shot off-hand at 10 yardsPDP Best 10.jpg

Another 10 shot target shot at 10-yards at Range USA in Mishawaka for a competition. Not quite as tight, but 7 of the 10 support the previous image.

This is not a serious question, the Walther is just better in every way. You are getting a top quality German pistol that is just stupid accurate with the best striker fired trigger on the market that I am aware of. Plus the beauty of the Walther guns is they have just been refining the P99 and the PDP is the “Gen 3” P99 IMHO

With the Springfield you get a flashy but rebranded Croatian gun that is questionable if Springfield will support in 10 years.

To add to my earlier submission, I will say that the Echelon is a fine pistol, even though I would still choose the PDP over it. I have shot a few from friends and even an introduction version at a Springfield event in Mishawaka, but I walked away each time thinking that I'm glad that I went with the PDP... It is just simply a better gun for me.

The only handguns in my collection that would give the PDP a run for its money in the accuracy department would be my custom 1911, and my custom Ruger GP100 6". Even though it keeps up with both of those handguns, I will say that the PDP is just easier for me to shoot well. Maybe it is because it is a polymer handgun, but I never really imagined that a polymer handgun would ever be able to keep up with a metal gun in terms of ultimate accuracy, but here we are.

Many folks will tell you that the PDP has more muzzle flip than other handguns in the same class, but what they fail to mention is that the PDP just seems to settle right back at its original POA faster than many of its competitors, which is just as important, if not more so.

I suggest that you try both the Echelon and the PDP if you get the chance. I think that you will give the nod to the PDP if it is a fair comparison.
