Sadly Canada appear to be destroying their stock of inglis made hi powers. These would sell in the us easily. Barrels are too short and mags too big for Canada

22lr pistol will allow you to quickly learn to shoot well with cheaper ammo . Build muscle memory for trigger control, sight alignment.
Some gill size pistol have 22lr conversions 1911, glocks that give you a lot of bang for the buck on the same lower of you major caliber.

Does your rifle have a the volley sights on the left side?
Also check you rear sight if it has a windage adjustment. This would be the earliest mk III configuration. The windage adjustment was was later removed or pinned solid
