I'm about to drink the AK74 :koolaid:. When you look at the price of 5.45 vs. 7.62 ammo, the choice is clear.

    Eh, not so clear anymore.

Current prices for 5.45 are around $140 / tin of 1080, plus shipping. Its starting to get really close to the 7.62 price.

    that said, get both!!!! ;)

Yes, there is a pretty noticeable difference in recoil. The AK74 has practically no recoil while the AK47 has quite a bit more. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it's not nearly as controllable.

AK74 mags can be had for $13 at Apex Gun Parts. I don't consider that to be too pricey. Ammo is quite a bit cheaper for the 74. You can get 1080 rounds for $119 from AIM surplus which is quite a bit less than 7.62x39. Sure, it's corrosive but it takes 15 minutes to clean your rifle after shooting with warm water.

Arsenal makes the best non-custom AKs. They cost quite a bit more than a Century but they're much better made and the SGL are real Russian made rifles (with the necessary US parts count).

Windex does absolutely nothing that warm soapy water doesn't do. If you want a spray bottle of something to break down corrosive salts, buy a $.99 spay bottle from Menards and put water in it. The ingredient in Windex that breaks the salts down most effectively is water, not ammonia.

Yeah, it's up $10 from earlier this year. It's still cheaper than the $189 you'll pay for corrosive Yugo or $199 for Wolf 7.62x39.
