Peru shooting leaves 1 dead after domestic dispute

    The Journal Gazette

A Peru man died Wednesday night after being shot by a Peru police officer responding to a domestic dispute.
Stewart K. Wolfe, 39, died at a home in the 500 block of East 2nd Street, according to an Indiana State Police report. Wolfe was a resident at the home.
A 911 call at 7:10 p.m. sent Peru officers to the home on a report of an ongoing domestic dispute involving a gun. Sgt. Jason Mooney was allowed to enter the home, where he confronted Wolfe. Police said Wolfe allegedly showed a semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at Mooney, who fired once, hitting Wolfe in the torso.
Four children were in the home at the time of the shooting, but none were injured, police said. Wolfe's girlfriend, who left the home when police arrived, had a bruise to her head allegedly caused by Wolfe. No officers were injured.
Mooney has been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure for the department.
The Indiana State Police continues to investigate the case with help from the Peru Police Department, Miami County Sheriff's Department and Miami County Prosecutor Eric Huneryager.

Sorry to hear of the shooting. Sorry for the family of the person who was shot, sorry for the girlfriend and her children and sorry for the police officer who had to do the shooting. None of them will ever be the same.

Keep your smart a_ _ remarks to yourselves.
