Here is my question to you. How do you carry? With the Safety On or Off?

I'm not talking about a 1911 here, I'm talking a double/single action (i.e. Beretta) style handgun. Lets hear it.

I always carry with the safety on. Have you ever dropped your pants in the can without thinking and had your carry drop to the floor? In a lot of pistols it will block the firing pin. Keep the safety on.

Glock Lover, you don't even have a safety, sort of, do you?

Drop your Glock in the can and go to grabbing at it and you will wish you had a safety.

on a DA/SA...I'd carry it hammer down, safety off. I carried (precious few times) a CZ-40P and a Beretta 9000s that way.

I wholly relied on the long DA trigger to act as the "safety" just like I do with the S&W 642 that I carry now.

Double action - decocker off. (it really is not a "safety") I am a product of my Police Academy training. It is a double action first shot after all, although my experience has only been with the S&W DA not the Beretta.

Before I carried a Glock, I would roll my Ruger P89 with the "safety" off.. simply using it as a decocker. A double action trigger pull (along with my training) is enough safety to satisfy me..

But now, as a Glocker, well...

I switched to XD, cuz I didn't want to mess with the safety on my S&W Model 411... way too hard to operate quickly under stress.

My choice is DAO, striker fired, or decock only for carry.

I prefer Double Action, Hammer Down, Safety on, unchambered, with the magazine unloaded out of the gun, and a box of rounds in a bag stored in the trunk of the car.

or maybe just a G19, loaded & chambered, in the holster like it should be. :)

i carry with one in the chamber and not have the hammer cocked when i carry the 1911, but the the glock i always have one in the chamber and my options are alittle limited to weather if i can flip the safety on or off so i carry a fobus holster it alittle bulky but its better than my uncle mikes holster.

io carry min with safety on hammer dowb since it is a dao on the first pull. if i spot something fishy i can simply release the safety and cock the hammer manually.

    What Lars said. . .

But in your case, with your new toy, I'd go safety off, as your long DA pull is your safety.

If i have the LCP it has no safety ...and yes one in the chamber ..
If i have the S&W 442 its a wheel gun ...No safety
Either of the sigs ....well they have no saftey ....
One of the beretta's one in the chamber ..safety off ..(dont want to get confused and think i have one of my carry pieces without a safety ...lol):draw:

dice you bring up an excellent point-- similarities in manual of arms!

If you're going to ever switch between the PX4 and your Glock, you don't want your trained muscle memory to get jammed up because they function differently. You'd hate to get a "click" instead of a "bang".
