    Hey Everyone,
I'm sure most of you know about the Honor Flights. Just in case you don't, here is a quick rundown. It is an orginization that has taken upon itself to truly honor our Greatest Generation. It flys WWII Veterns to Washington D.C. so that they can see THEIR memorial and gives them the welcome home they truly deserved. We are losing these men and women at a rate of around 800 PER DAY and Honor Flight believes that all of them should get a chance to see the memorial. All of this is done at NO COST to the veterns. I work with a Doctor whose father is a vet and they both got to go on one this past fall. Also a gentleman in my church is a Navy WWII vet and he got to go on one. Everyone I have ever talked to says it is one of the greatest moments of their lives.
There is now a movie that is being shown around the country that is truly moving. In order for it to be shown up here, a minimum of 72 tickets have to be pre-ordered. In Schereville at the AMC (I know a lot of us don't like them), they only need 15 more tickets pre-ordered. It is for May 21 at 7:30pm. This is an incredible movie that shows the true American Spirit. I know my wife and I and some family members are going to try to go. We also are going to try to volunteer some with Honor Flight this year for the welcome home portion at the Airports. I hope to see some of you there!
Here is the link to the information on the movie with the Date and Time. Also the link to the Honor Flight website. I HAVE AN EXTRA TICKET. It is $11.

Tugg - Honor Flight in Schererville, IN on Tuesday, May 21, 7:30pm

This movie is nothing short of amazing. I HIGHLY recommend it.

The story is incredibly powerful, and seeing the tremendous positive effect something as simple as a trip to see the Memorial has is moving in a way I can't even begin to describe.

Miketodd, thank you for volunteering, and for raising awareness about this event. :yesway::yesway::yesway::yesway:

(I'm on the BoD for Honor Flight, full disclosure)

Did this movie air on PBS? I recall seeing something similar on PBS (only caught the last part) where the veterans are returning to Chicago (O'hare) airport and there was lines of people waiting for them as well as members of the armed services at attention.

That was a PBS segment they did on Honor Flight, separate from the movie.

The movie follows Stars n' Stripes Honor Flight up in Milwaukee by tracking the stories of WWII vets that got to go on the flight. The guy that made the movie is Dan Hayes of Freethink Media. He did this as a side/personal project, and was so powerful it took on a life of its own.

When this movie premiered, it actually set the record for largest movie premier ever. They sold out Miller Park in Milwaukee.

You will not regret going to see this film. Truely an amazing story. Although please proceed with caution, as it "may be very dusty in the theater"

I saw the film with my wife, when they showed in in Lafayette. I told her she needed to see it. I have escorted an 92 year old Navy Fighter-pilot on the flight, and feel truely honnored to have been part of such an amazing historical event. You can't even begain to comprehend just what this mean to these veterans.

I hope to go again if needed, and my wife has sigend up to go this fall. You really should go if you can.

So we went to the movie last night ant it was incredible. There was a ceremony before that we missed part of but still got to see a little bit. They had a drum and bagpipe group who I am assuming was from Lake County because some of them were wearing Lake County Sherriff's Department shirts. As we walked into the theatre, it was already filled with veterns and their families. My three friends and I were the youngest there along with 3 active duty Marines and a Sailor. During the movie, there was not one dry eye in the place and afterwards we all clapped and stood. There was a gentleman sitting down the row from me that was a paratooper in WWII and was wearing his Purple Heart and his original jump boots. There was supposed to be another gentleman who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam but he wasn't able to make it that night. Out of the verterns that were there, about half of them have been on an Honor Flight.
As we were leaving the theatre, there was a vet who couldn't walk out to his care. Since the theatre didn't have a wheelchair, my friends and I found a chair for him to sit him. Than with the help of a Patriot Guard member, the four of us picked up the vetern and carried him out to his car at the curb. He kept thanking us but all we could do was say "No sir, Thank You." It was a very emotional night for all envolved. It is amazing to think that there are so many out there that take their freedom for granted here in the US.
They are supposed to be showing the movie in Hobart at the AMC but they haven't set a date yet.
Here is a pic of the theatre when we got in there.
