There is a lot of debate--translate, opinions--"out there" regarding the best ammunition choices for self defense. Enter the study of Terminal Ballistics.

The study of terminal ballistics became "center stage" after the disastrous April 11, 1986 FBI Miami shootout in which two agents were killed and five wounded by a determined BG named Michael Platt.

After the April 11, 1986 shootout, Army Colonel and combat surgeon, Dr. Martin Fackler was the leading person in advancing the study of terminal ballistics, but Dr. Fackler is, essentially, retired, now.

The two best experts, now, in the field of terminal ballistics are FBI SSA Buford Boone, in the FBI's Balllistic Research Facility, and Dr. Gary Roberts, former Navy Lt. Commander, who works in the San Francisco area.

Agent Boone will not reveal any information to anyone outside of law enforcement and, then, only by written requests signed by rank of Captain or higher.

That leaves Dr. Roberts, who often works closely with FBI agent Boone. For the very best in information on terminal ballistics and ammunition selection, vist this site maintained by Dr. Roberts. His threads are in bold at the top of the page and contain an absolute gold mine of accurate information.
